Forty years ago, Placencia was the quintessential fishing village with a narrow meandering sidewalk that served as its main and only street. The sidewalk was once in the Guinness Book of World records as the narrowest street in the world. Today the narrowest street is in Reutlingen, Germany. It is called Spreuerhofstrasse and is 31 cm (1 ft) at the narrowest point. Not to worry, such are the problems of tourism development! Today this peninsula destination retains its traditional charm (and slightly wider sidewalk) while offering first class amenities and activities.
