Three of the four true atolls in the western hemisphere – Lighthouse Reef, Turneffe Islands and Glover’s Reef – lie 30 to 60 miles off the Belizean mainland, beyond the spectacular barrier reef, and offer secluded beaches, hidden bays, fish and coral-packed walls that plummet 3,000 feet below. Belize is one of the smallest countries in Central America but its small population makes it appear bigger than it is. Slightly larger than El Salvador it packs a lot within its borders, from the longest reef in the New World and the amazing Blue Hole, to whale sharks, atolls, the largest cave system in Central America, Maya ruins and jungle trekking.
