The sparkling, clear water of the river, the shimmering spray of the falls and the contrasting green of the forest are accentuated by a wild display of colorful flowers of over four hundred and fifty species of orchids, palmettos and other exotic plants. The continuos flowering of these plants throughout the year produces nature's own kaleidoscope of brilliant colours and the crisp air is always heavy with a fragrant, exciting aroma. To really appreciate and enjoy all that nature has allowed us to offer you, the following must be included on your packing list: Hiking or walking shoes, River sandals, Hat, Swimwear, Sun screen, Insect repellent, Sweaters, Poncho, Binoculars, Camera and film. The days are warm and the nights cool, so bring a light jacket.
Guided tours are offered to the most scenic natural creations in our beautiful Mountain Pine Ridge. You will be thrilled by the famous Rio Frio Caves, where stalactites and stalagmites from an erie backdrop to this ancient Mayan worship place. Rio Frio means cold river and the tingling cold water of this river flows through the caves. Then there are the Rio On Pools with cold, clear water swirling around beautiful granite boulders. The Thousand Foot Falls offer a breathtaking view of gushing cascading water. It is like a painting which is continuously being retouched by nature as sunlight darts through the falls or as an occasional rainbow is etched in. Then of course the tour could not be complete without a trek through the ancient Mayan ruins of a lost civilization - Caracol. Considered to be ten times greater in area than Tikal in neighboring Guatemala, Caracol was once a vital centre for the Mayas. The call of Howler Monkeys can be heard at Caracol and in the misty morning, the colorful ocelated turkeys can be seen traipsing around the ruins.
