Fabulous Vacation at Captain Morgan's 5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: Gia Craig, Thu Apr 28 2005

We arrived for our second visit to Ambergis Caye and were promptly greeted at the airport by staff from Captain Morgans who loaded our luggage onto their boat, let us grab a cold beer and we were off. After a 5 minute boat ride we arrived at Captain Morgan's Retreat and were greeted by our host for the week Malcolm Poulton. He showed us around the property, which is breathtaking. It is large enough so everyone is not on top of each other but small enough to allow the staff to focus on the personal treatment they give to each guest.

Throughout our vacation we were given personal attention as were all of the guests. They made sure that our activities (fishing, snorkeling, sunset cruise, massage) were all taken care of and that we enjoyed and were happy with each of the activities. The highlight of the week was an all day fishing trip. Our group of 4 was taken on a private boat where we attempted many forms of fishing. While we did not have much success with our trolling for big game we struck payday when we dropped our lines and did some bottom fishing. We came up with Nassau Grouper, many varieties of Snapper, Barracuda and several others. We even hooked a black tip shark but were unable to get him into the boat. Next it was off to a private beach where our captain cleaned and grilled our fish and added in some sides to make a complete lunch. It was delicious! We even had enough fish to give to another larger group who was docked there at the same time as us. After eating, we took a short ride to an area to do some snorkeling. Jumping into the water felt like jumping into a fishtank. The water is the most beautiful clear aqua blue that you could ever imagine and we were able to see some exciting marine life including a 3ft shark, sting rays, an eel and many colorful fish.

As I mentioned this was our second trip to Ambergis Caye. Last year we stayed at Journey's End which was fine but beautiful beach, the 2 swimming pools (one with swim-up bar) and most importantly, the personal attention given by all of the staff at Captain Morgan's is what sets them apart. Cheers to Mally for a great vacation!!
