First...meet the founding webmasters:

Manolo Romero established Belize's first electronic Bulletin Board System in 1994 when the Internet was in its nascent stage. Ahead of even the then telephone monopoly BTL, the Belize Online BBS polled via long distance a UUCP feed at the University of Puerto Rico 4 times every day thus delivering electronic mail to some 60 Belizean clients before the Internet became a reality in Belize.

Manolo was trained as a journalist at the Caribbean Institute of Mass Communications, University of the West Indies Mona Campus. He began his career as a cub reporter at Radio Belize in 1975. He did tours of duty as Assistant Editor of The Reporter Newspaper, Editor of the Belize Times, Photo Editor of Fun and Games Magazine (Published by the Amandala Group), News Editor of Radio Belize, Information Officer in the Government Information Service, then Chief Information Officer at the Belize Information Service (formerly Government Information Service). He was also the gravelly-voiced D.J. of Impactos Musicales and Saludos Amigos music request programs aired on Radio Belize along with contemporaries Rene Villanueva, Ernesto Vasquez and Enrique David Martinez in the early Eighties.

His final posting in the public service was as Communications Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources. "My government career then officially flamed out seventeen days after the change of government that brought the United Democratic Party into office in 1995," he says. He was in good company as approximately 900 public officers were retrenched in a widely criticised move seen as firing career public officers to make jobs available for political appointees of the new government.

Manolo is a single parent. He is Managing Director of Belize.com Ltd. which operates this website. He is also a real estate investor and offshore financial services consultant. He enjoys surfing the Internet, travel, good books, fast cars and fast ....(well, you know the rest).

Susan and Izzy Garcia live in Northern California and also own resort condos in Paradise Villas, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize. Susan is a civil rights and plaintiffs' employment attorney. Izzy, a former Fab Engineer Consultant with Advanced Micro Devices, is the owner of Garcia Project Management, a construction project management and consulting firm. They plan to relocate to Belize eventually.

Manolo and the Garcia's founded Internet Travel Marketing in January, 1995, as a joint Belizean-U.S. enterprise. The purpose of the partnership is to create and maintain the Belize Online Tourism and Investment Guide as a vehicle for promoting responsible tourism and investment in Belize, and for providing affordable online advertising to the tourism and investment sectors in Belize. The BOTIG went online April 1, 1995. Since the establishment of Belize Online the Garcias have devolved their shares in the company.
