I bought an Ipad 2 last year. I live in Belize. The main reason I bought it is to be able to use Facetime to make international calls. The cost of international phone calls was a real downer since I moved to Belize years ago. We tried all the work around approaches to allow us to use VOiP. Each would work for a while until BTL somehow managed to block it.

IPad's Facetime technology works like a charm. You can call other IPads, IPhones and Apple computers. Not everyone has the Apple technology, but it seems that most people can't resist buying an IPhone or IPad. The Facetime calls are also clearer than even our landline BTL calls. And you can see the person on the other side of the line. My understanding is that Facetime is embedded in the Apple e-mail technology, so BTL can't really block it. Am hoping that is the case since it is such a great technology.

We all have been anxiously waiting for the GOB to come into the 20th century and stop blocking VOiP. But until they do, the IPad and IPhone are the best options for making free international calls from Belize to other countries.
