One of our contributors recently pointed us to a Belize Regions Map that was produced by a Wiki Travel contributor, based on the Belize Map produced by Perry Castaneda Collection at the University of Texas.
Wiki Travel at one time was an independent and rising site developed by a devoted community of volunteer contributors. However it was recently sold to Internet Brands and commercialized. Contributions appear to have fallen off along with the quality and accuracy of its material.
The map designer is not a professional cartographer, (and this shows in the map design). We have reviewed it and a few errors of place names are immediately apparent, along with other elevation details that are not accurate. The map generally represents Belize in an very simple, cartoon-like map – more apparent when looking at the full size version. We have written to the map designer pointing out some of the additional work that needs to be done and hopefully he will make corrections and improvements.
