The Belize Canoe Association held the fifth annual Boom To The City Canoe Race yesterday February 20. This race is generally seen as a primer for the now internationally famous La Ruta Maya Canoe Race held in March every year and which starts in San Ignacio and ends up in Belize City over the course of three days.

A total of 27 teams representing all seven divisions of La Ruta Maya started the race at 9:10 AM in the morning.

The Big H team and Pine Lumber were fighting belly to belly for the sprint price at the Boom Bridge. Pine Lumber over turned and Big H claimed the prize at the bridge and kept the lead all the way into Belize City.

Team Big H won the race in a time of 2:40 winning a total of $600.00 and setting a new record for the race beating the old record by a few minutes.
