Expo Belize 2005

The National Day Celebrations in September sees two main trade exhibitions. Expo Belize is the largest and is held in the sweltering St. John's College Gymnasium. Local manufacturers ranging from pepper sauces to hotels to banks and handicraft pack the exhibition which now spills over to the gym grounds.
New this year were exhibitions from Guatemala, fabrics, clothes, breads and pastries as well as personal care items from 3 companies.

Both Queen of the Bay Karine Wong (who hails from Sarawee Village in the Stann Creek District) and Miss Belize Andrea Elrington graced the exhibition this year.

The growing importance of the tourism industry in Belize was highlighted by an increasing number of handicrafts exhibit. Several Belizeans are now investing in the creation of indigenous items such as handbags, bracelets, headgear, carvings and jewelry for sale to tourists.
